Artemis Pentland Peaks Challenge
Mary’s Meals is an international movement that sets up school feeding projects in communities where poverty and hunger prevent children from gaining an education. Mary’s Meals began in Dalmally, Argyll in 2002 and now feeds feeds 2,058,099 children every school day in 19 countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe and the Caribbean. Mary’s Meals is a simple idea that works. By providing a daily meal in a place of education, chronically poor children are encouraged to the classroom where they can gain a basic education that provides an escape route from poverty. Where children receive Mary’s Meals, there is a rise in school enrolment, attendance, and participation.
Mary’s Meals school feeding programs are owned and run by the local communities in which they work. Mary’s Meals buys locally grown food for wherever possible, providing an assured market for farmers and their families, and supporting economic growth. Mary’s Meals aims to keep running costs low and to ensure that at least 93% of donations can be spent directly on charitable activities. This is only possible of the incredible work done by tens of thousands of dedicated volunteers all over the world who carry out lots of little acts of love on behalf of Mary’s Meals.
The average worldwide cost to feed a child for a whole school year is just £15.90. Your fundraising will help to reach the next hungry child with Mary’s Meals, ensuring that they receive a meal each school day.
