The Artemis Pentland Peaks Challenge

The Artemis Pentland Peaks Challenge is an charity walking event in the Pentland Hills near Edinburgh. The inaugural Artemis Pentland Peaks Challenge in 2022 raised over £100,000 for charity. The next Pentland Peaks Challenge will take place on Saturday 2nd September 2023. There will be Gold (27 miles), Silver (14 miles) and Bronze (8 miles) challenge routes to test every level of fitness.

EVENT LOCATION

The event will start and finish at Cockdurno Farm, Balerno. There will be free parking available on site for those who wish to drive and there are buses from central Edinburgh to Balerno, which is a 1 mile walk from the event hub at Cockdurno.

All routes will have stunning views of Edinburgh, The Forth Bridges and Fife to the North and Borders to the south.

EVENT TIMINGS AND EQUIPMENT

Gold participants will start at 7am (likely to take up to 12 hours to complete); Silver at 8am (up to 8 hours walking); and Bronze at 9am (up to 5 hours walking)

We recommend you bring the following equipment when taking part in this event:

FOOD AND REFRESHMENTS

Hot/cold drinks and snacks will be provided before the event and there will be a number of refreshment stops along the route providing snacks and hot/cold drinks. We also recommend that you bring your own snacks/gels to keep you going along the route. Finally there will be a delicious barbeque at the finish line to reward your amazing efforts!

REGISTRATION FEE

All three routes will cost £50 per participant to register. This contributes to the event costs including food stations, hill safety, event hub marquee etc. Groups of 6 or more will receive a 20% discount on the registration fee. FUNDRAISING

We ask all participants to raise a minimum of £250 for the event charities, Mary’s Meals and the John Muir Trust (Click here for more info). Every penny you raise will go to towards the fantastic work of these two charities.

WHO CAN TAKE PART?

Participants must be 18 years or over, however 16 or 17 year olds can take part if accompanied by a parent or guardian.  You can take part in the event as an individual or in a team (each participant should sign up individually but you can take part as a team on the day)

Yes – Part of the deal is that each participant raises a minimum of £250 for Mary’s Meals and the John Muir Trust who will in turn be supporting the event with volunteers and marshal support.

No you will need to register on line prior to the event. Check in on arrival at Cockdurno on event day.

Extra volunteer staff are always welcome, please contact WildFox Events before the day of the challenge.

Yes. Especially if you are attempting Silver and Gold. The route includes ascending all the Pentland Peaks and we recommend you build up your training and increase your distances as the event date approaches.

Yes but only if you contact WildFox Events at least two weeks prior to the event.

Yes, there will be a timing system primarily for safety reasons. Details will be provided when you check in at the event.

Yes. You will be informed of these along the route in order to have all participants back at the hub by 21:00 on Saturday evening.

All marshall support and signage along the route, refreshments at our 6 feed stations and barbecue at the finish. Hot drinks and snacks will be available at the start.

No, we are sorry but dogs are not welcome. This is at the request of the Landowners.

Lothian Buses runs the No.44 bus from central Edinburgh to Balerno.  Check with Lothian Buses for up to date timetable.
